, also known as Sarracenia, is a group of carnivorous plants that are native to the Americas. They are known for their distinctive pitcher-shaped leaves that are used to trap and digest insects and other small prey. The leaves of pitcher plants are modified into a tube-like shape with a slippery surface that makes it difficult for insects to climb out once they fall in. The inside of the pitcher is lined with downward-pointing hairs and digestive enzymes that break down the prey.
