Американские психологи из Йельского университета решили подробнее изучить этот феномен, который они назвали агрессивной симпатией. Ученые пригласили сотню добровольцев и предложили им описать свои эмоции при просмотре той или иной фотографии. На одних снимках были запечатлены «запредельно симпатичные» котята и прочие детеныши, на других — просто забавные выражения взрослых животных, третьи были нейтрального содержания. Психологи отслеживали непроизвольные междометия испытуемых, а те сообщали о своих внезапных желаниях при просмотре фотографий (многие хотели схватить и потискать то, что изображено на снимках). Как оказалось, чем симпатичнее фотография, тем больше человек теряет над собой контроль.
Во время второго эксперимента испытуемым вручили упаковочный полиэтилен с воздушными пузырьками, которые все так любят «лопать». Опять-таки, чем «кавайнее» были фотографии, тем интенсивнее люди мяли пузырьки.
Таким образом, проявляемая на словах агрессия при виде миловидных котят подкрепляется агрессивной бессознательной психомоторной реакцией, пришли к выводу ученые. Котят так и хочется прижать к груди.
Объяснять причины агрессии психологи не спешат. Пока есть только теории. Например, такая: при виде чего-то милого человек стремится выразить заботу, прижав объект к груди. Однако поскольку речь идет лишь о фотографиях, то от избытка эмоций приходится избавляться другим способом, с помощью агрессивных импульсов. Подобный эффект превращения одной эмоции в ее противоположность наблюдается в моменты ощущения счастья, когда люди начинают плакать.
